Detroit, Michigan

Let's talk Detroit!  I lived in and around Detroit almost my whole life except for the past 7+ years.  Each year I go back to visit, I am shocked and inspired by all of the positive change happening in the city.  Longing to one day return, but until then, I will reminisce about some recent times there.  Here's what's "happening" in the Motor City.

1.  Brooklyn St. Local
Start the morning off here for some breakfast or brunch.  Lots of vegan options on the menu make this place a great choice.

2.  Third Man Records
Love music?  Duh.  Hop on over to Third Man Records for a real treat.  Founded by Jack White in 2015 - it's a record shop, music venue, plus newly opened vinyl pressing plant.  The inside is a delight for the eyes - uniquely colored in mostly yellow and black.  Don't forget to check out the cool photo booth near the back (Impossible Project) that prints out polaroid photos with yellow/black filters on them.  Rad.

Pescadero, California

Pescadero is a delightful little place on the earth. Took a trip there last weekend and below are my recommendations!!

1.  Pigeon Point Lighthouse
More than worth the stop. There was a "super bloom" going on due to all of the rain this year and the wild flowers were blooming everywhere! Made the views near the lighthouse extra special.

2.  Downtown Local
This is a fun little coffee shop / vintage shop. I wasn't able to try the coffee, but it looked great and the ambience of the little town was quaint and calm.

3.  Arcangeli Grocery Co.
Practically next door to Downtown Local, is a small little grocery store. Go here for their well-known artichoke garlic bread!  You won't wanna miss out on this. I picked up a warm loaf to snack on during my drive down to some nearby state parks for hiking.

4.  Costanoa Lodge
This place is great for so many reasons. There are many different lodging options depending on your budget. I opted for a cute inexpensive tent bungalow (pictured below). It was perfect. For dinner & breakfast, I ate that the ORGANIC Cascade Bar & Grill. Despite the terrible reviews on Yelp, I actually really enjoyed the food and the service.

5.  Butano State Park
Butano State Park is an awesome place to hike and is only a few minutes away from Costanoa. I hiked there for 3 hours and got to see redwoods, flowers, butterflies, and other little creatures.
